Morning Designing

Good morning, I'm up early and thought I would design a new corner shelf.  Everything is based on 12" squares.  It would use Kreg pocket screws to put together.  Hope you enjoy the design.

Check out our Sketchup animation of the design.  Subscribe to our YouTube channel for other information.

Post Edit:  I've had many questions on how to hang the shelf and how to assembly.  First for the hanging question, I would recommend to keyhole slot on the back of the two top pieces.   You can purchase a keyhole router bit at most hardware supply store.

Second question is the assembly.  A few years ago, I purchased a simple Kreg R3 jig (https://www.kregtool.com/store/c13/kreg-jigsreg/p169/kreg-jigreg-r3/).  For DIY woodworkers or hobbyist, this tool is a must for you.  I had never built furniture until I discovered Kreg tools.

I would like to know how I put the pieces together. Are they glued?

I use the Kreg Pocket screw jig to assembly.

Glued quarter inch dowels . Use a dowling jig or counter sink one and half inch wood screws. Use clamps until glue drys, 24 hours or so

It seems the easiest way to mount would to be attach the flat facing pieces by drilling down into the horizontal, then the horizontal pieces flush with the wall you would place maybe 2 screws into the wall from the top of each, so it would be hidden by the vertical shelf above it? Not perfectly invisible but close!

Two screws each in 6 inch pieces and one screw in each of 12 inch pieces, touching the wall, for stability

Have corner that doesn't fit anything I have. Your corner shelf unit will be perfect. Thanks.

Awesome design! I made 2 of them and they came out great! I didn't have a router so I drilled holes at each level and screwed it in and filled the holes w wood filler, looks great!

Could you please tell me the thickness of the ply required, 12mm, 15mm or 18mm? Thank you

I'd say 1/2" (12 mm), that's the ones I made and they are plenty sturdy enough
