Headboard bench

Yesterday, Bonnie and I picked up a couple of headboards at Salvation Army.  You can look at the photo gallery below to see how they started out.  In just a few hours, we created this beautiful twin size bench.  Bonnie isn't really happy with me because I told her that I'm going to sell it if anyone was interested.

Using the Kreg pocket hole jig, we connected one half of the smaller headboard to each side of the bigger headboard.  I did some framing for the seat and put on some pine bead boards that we picked up at Home Depot.

We have primed it and will be painting in a few days.  I'll post completed pictures.  Our plan is to paint a ruby red with yellow accents.

I can not believe you did these in a few hours, I brought two headboards and footboards home months ago and they are still sitting in the garage. I read to my husband how you did this IN JUST A FEW HOURS, maybe this will shame him into working on them. I can paint but I need him to the carpentry work. Great job, the bench looks great

Followed a link on RoadKill Rescue. Wow...this is the type of thing I'd like to to, repurpose things that may otherwise be disposed into something useful. Looking forward to seeing the updates.

I have seen these in several shops and really want to build one. Perfect pics. This is really easy to do...at least you make it look easy. Looking forward to seeing your completed project. And you are featured on Roadkill Rescue!

Perfectly lovely!! Ive never taken on such a project. Would you recommend this one to be a fairly good one for a beginner? My husband is quite good with woodworking and furniture building,, so I would have help when needed. I just don't want to get frustrated! Thanks!

I would highly recommend purchasing one of the Kreg Jr pocket hole jigs. It made this project easy even for a beginner.

We dragged a headboard/footboard from our neighbor's garbage and plan on doing the same thing. Thanks for sharing your project! It looks fantastic. We think we might turn ours into a double rocker.
