My most recent build is a slat chair or civil war camp chair. I had some cedar lumber I had purchased from Bagdad Lumber. Goodness, it is pretty stuff. Made my shop smell great when I was running the boards through the planer. This little chair is going to my niece. I promised her a patio chair when she moved into her apartment last year. I think she will love this one.
This week we finally remove the large maple tree in the backyard. I'm guessing it is 65+ years old. It was 54" in diameter. The guys are Big Blue Tree Service took it down. They are great people. Here are some pictures. I ask them to leave the wood for friends. I'm giving away the firewood. I'm hoping the guys from the Bluegrass Wood Turners Association will take the large colorful wood. It is call ambrosia maple. Much like Spalted Maple and other forms of figured maple, Ambrosia Maple is technically not a specific species of Maple, but rather a general description of any type of Maple.
I'm a beginning woodworker playing with simple projects I can complete quickly.
